West Metro Fire Rescue initially said no one inside the donut shop was hurt However, Ty Countryman, the Lakewood Police Department public information officer, later confirmed that there were multiple people inside the Winchell’s restaurant who were injured, including one man who was seated at a table which was hit by the vehicle and tossed across the room. WMFR stated that his injuries aren’t life-threatening. The Winchell’s owners confirmed one of their employees needed to be transported to the hospital. It’s unclear how many patrons were injured.

WMFR confirmed that two of the four people inside the motor home were injured and taken to the hospital. The driver’s injuries are believed to be serious. Firefighters also rescued a dog, who was not hurt and was not injured, from the motor home.

The reason for the accident was not known at the time of the crash. Countryman said it appears the motor home was travelling northbound on Pierce Street and tried to make a left on westbound Colfax Avenue. He added “somewhere in that process of the left turn it did not get completed.” Countryman also said that surveillance video does not indicate reckless driving.

The technical rescue team from WMFR is on the scene to repair structural damage to the building. The crews are working to repair the area of the building impacted to ensure it’s safe for pulling the motor home out.
