Free House in Golden!
Golden, Colo. You have the opportunity to own a historic 1923 home… for nearly free. There’s just one catch… you have to come get it and move it somewhere else. The Colorado School of Mines (CSM) is clearing the way for its new Welcome Center, which will be located at 18th and Illinois streets in Golden.
The home currently located there is considered an important piece of history by the Historic Preservation Board. So the City of Golden has persuaded CSM to give it to whoever can move it, in hopes of preserving the home. It is 935 square feet must be moved by mid-May. You will need to commit to moving the home by Tuesday, April 1. And since state property can’t be given away, the recipient will need to “buy” the house for a nominal charge.
There are specific insurance requirements to follow regarding exactly how the house needs to be moved. But if you’re interested, contact Golden Planning Manager Rick Muriby at 303-384-8098 by April 1, 2014.
