Orange and blue on Valentine’s Day
Ah, it’s time once again to for Cupid to make his annual appearance as Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. But this year, fate has made shopping for the perfect gift just a little bit easier for some of you.
I have commented before about how it can be hard for some guys to pick out something that will touch the heart of their beloved, but fear not, for this year a rare opportunity has arisen. A lot of you guys are saved.
Yes, in some cosmic aligning of the stars, the Broncos won the Super Bowl! That means that for the last month, everyone here in the Denver area has had Broncos Fever, including (judging from all the Facebook posts I’m seeing) your wife or girlfriend.
It’s a miracle! You can shop for something in your local sporting goods store! Yes, right after the game all this World Champions paraphernalia and clothing hit the shelves and for once, you can get her something to wear that isn’t red lingerie that won’t fit her or red roses that will die in a week. This year’s Valentine’s Day colors are blue and orange! I know, can you believe it?
But that’s not going to totally get you off the hook. You probably still have to find something romantic to do. Well, fear not, here’s a couple of last minute ideas that will work.
On Saturday, Feb. 13, the Golden Gate Grange will be hosting its annual Valentine’s Day Dance from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Community Center located at 25201 Golden Gate Canyon Road. That’s just a few miles up the canyon near Crawford Gulch Road.
It’s a festive atmosphere where you can enjoy the live music of “Magic Moments” and dance to classics from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s plus some good ol’ Country and Western tunes. Bring your Valentine (or not), kick up your heels, enjoy a slow dance or join in on the fancy footwork of a C & W waltz or line dancing. There will also be refreshments served and door prizes.
Tickets are only $ 10 in advance or $ 12.50 at the door and you don’t need to be a Grange member to attend, it’s open to the public.
For more information call Phoebe Reese at 303-277-1742 or Terri Costeldia at 303-277-0351. You can also go to their website at www.goldengategrange.com.
Are you heartbroken or a heartbreaker?
Well, in either case you might want to check out the Heartbreaker’s Ball at the Golden Moon Speakeasy. That’s happening on Sunday, Feb. 14, from 4-9 p.m.
So, here’s what’s going on there. It’s kind of a “not too serious” celebration for those of you who would rather laugh than hide at a quiet corner table. They say that couples and singles alike either indulge in or revile the day and they want to provide a place where you can do either one.
They will have candy hearts, roses and an “expectation-free zone” where you buy your own drinks. OK, I’m not sure what to expect in an expectation-free zone, so your guess is as good as mine. They are also offering a single portion Charcuterie plate as well as drink specials. No, I don’t know what that is either. Looks like we’ll just have to show up and find out for ourselves. Ben Hanna will be performing from 5-8 p.m., and they will be showing ’80s heartbreaker movies all day.
The Golden Moon Speakeasy is located at 1111 Miner’s Alley here in Golden. That’s near the parking lot by Meyer’s Hardware.
