Super cruisin’ in Golden

It was the first Saturday of the month. The Golden Super Cruise was in town once again.

Cars of all different colors and years cruised along South Golden Road.

El Caminos, Mustangs, Trans Ams, Corvettes –; parked in lots at Sonic, Advanced Auto Parts and Grease Monkey.

Crowds of people had lawn chairs set up lining the street, and along the roundabout. Amber and Ron Webb of Arvada were two of those hundreds of people.

“We love cars. All kinds,” Amber said.

The two were there to watch the cruise, but they had one car in particular they were taking pictures of. This was the first year Amber’s aunt and uncle, Sue and Don Bates of Golden got to cruise in their white 1956 T-Bird.

“He has been working on it for 10-12 years,” Ron said.

The Super Cruise brings a lot of business to the stores, said Sonic employee Carissa Bustos. Golden’s cruise is one of the best, she added.

“And other than the traffic, it’s awesome,” she said.

A Dodge truck drove by with a number of people in it. A kid yelled, “Free water,” and the truck slowed down for the people who approached. Pastor Ruddy Vivanco and members of the Golden Seventh-day Adventist Church were passing out water and literature to anyone who wanted it.

Tom Demers drove his 2015 Camaro from Colorado Springs to Golden for the cruise. He likes the parade of cars.

“I find that enjoyable,” he said.

Demers goes to other cruises, too, he said, but he likes this one because it’s friendly.

“There’s camaraderie,” Demers said. “You always meet new people.”

Lisa and Jake Thompson of Lakewood agreed.

They were selling homemade bottle caps for $ 1. There were all sorts of them–;retro, car and musical band logos, cartoons. They have been coming to the cruise for four years.

“Seeing the cars, making some money, meeting new friends,” Lisa said.

It’s always a good time, she said.
