My Name Is…Cari Martinez of Golden

Coffee and hot food

I own and operate The Golden Buzz Coffee located near Mcintyre and 44th Avenue in Golden. I have breakfast burritos from the Burrito Shack in Arvada, espresso and coffee drinks. I get my coffee from Pangea Coffee Roasters in Golden.

The shop is open from 6 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays through the summer.

There’s nothing really in the area that’s convenient for coffee and hot food, so I wanted to open the shop there. Plus, my husband Mark Miklos and I are already renting the space for his motorcycle repair and service shop –; Mad Dogs Performance Cycles.

I have about 10 years’ experience bartending in the Golden area. I enjoy getting to know people. I thought this would be perfect –; and the hours are better than bartending, too. My daughter is a barista, and she taught me everything, such as how to make the specialty drinks.

A wand-maker

The other thing I do is make wands and I sell them on consignment at Into the Mystic in downtown Golden. My brand name is Mariposa Moon Divine Arts. I’ve been making them since 2007, and Bobbie Jo (Kuhl) has had them in her shop for about a year-and-a-half.

I had a wand that I used for a women’s full moon circle that I hosted, and everyone wanted one of their own, so that’s how I got started. I was doing it fulltime and selling to metaphysical shops all over the Denver area, but now it’s more of a hobby.

Hiking and people

I have four kids. I have twin sons who just graduated from Golden High School, my 23-year-old daughter and a 7-year-old son who goes to Pleasant View.

I moved to Golden in 2003. I’m originally from Littleton, but I wanted to be a little bit closer to the mountains. I chose to live here because of the hiking and the people. I like the community feel.
