Golden Solar Tour shines light on new technology

People will have an opportunity to learn about some leading-edge technology at the fourth annual Golden Solar Tour this year.

“The whole focus is to think globally, act locally,” said Sheila Townsend, director of the Golden Solar Tour.

The tour takes place 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 3. Participants will have the opportunity to tour 13 homes in Golden, Wheat Ridge and Denver. People should register for the tour beginning at 9 a.m. Oct. 3 at the American Mountaineering Center, 710 10th St. in Golden. Tickets for the tour cost $ 5 per person, and include a self-guided map and informational materials.

Following the tour, people are invited to attend a free reception and green expo, which takes place 4-6 p.m. Oct. 3 at the American Mountaineering Center. The reception will have appetizers and local beverages available, and exhibits demonstrating renewable energy and sustainable living. Electric cars will also be on display.

The 13 homes will showcase solar and sustainable technology, and experts will be available at the sites to answer any questions.

“With lower equipment costs and various governmental incentives, the time has never been better to explore first-hand how sustainable technology can benefit (a) home or business,” Townsend said.

Benefits include cost savings, she said, and, of course, how each person can do their part to reduce climate change impacts.

The event “gives everybody the opportunity to learn about the new technology being used in their backyard,” Townsend said. “It’s a chance for them to see, up close, these systems in action.”
