Weekend Closure of US 6 in Golden

This upcoming weekend, US 6 in Golden will be closed between 19th Street and Hwy 58. The closure goes into effect at 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21 and is expected to open back up before midnight on Sunday, Oct. 23.

There are several detours in place for drivers to navigate around the closed portion of US 6. Different detours are set up for those who plan to visit Golden, and those who are passing through.

The regional detour will be set up on US 6 east of Colfax, on I-70, C-470 and Highways 58 and 93.

For local Golden traffic, the detours will take drivers by way of Johnson, Ford and Jackson streets. US 6 will be open for local traffic only up to 19th Street, which will remain open. However, this option should be used only if necessary since it can back up quickly.

There will be many roadside signs, detour cones and flaggers in place over the weekend to help navigate traffic. This is part of the major reconstruction of US 6 at 19th Street, which will lower US 6 below 19th to allow for continuous traffic flow, while creating a beautiful lid on 19th to include bike lanes, a roundabout, park space and much more. The project is named Linking Lookout because it is designed to better connect downtown Golden with the residents who live at the base of Lookout Mountain.
