Jeb Bush rallies Republicans in Douglas County

Former Florida Republican Gov. Jeb Bush spoke of change and economic sustainability at an Oct. 29 rally at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Castle Rock.

Bush, to no one’s surprise, threw his support behind the Colorado Republican candidates, including U.S. Senate candidate Cory Gardner, as well as gubernatorial candidate Bob Beauprez and his running mate, Douglas County Commissioner Jill Repella, all of whom were present and spoke at the rally.

“This country can lead the world,” said Bush, whose brother George W. and father George both are past U.S. presidents. “That’s what this election is about. It’s not about the past. It’s about what the future can look like.”

Former Secretary of State, and 2016 Democratic presidential hopeful, Hillary Clinton was in Denver and Fort Collins last week to stump for state Democrats, and her husband and former U.S. president, Bill Clinton, was in the state on Tuesday doing the same in Lakewood.

Jeb Bush, who some speculate is preparing for a possible 2016 presidential run of his own, spoke more about the country in general than Colorado specifically and said Republicans could create “high sustained economic growth.”

While he gave support to each member of the Colorado Republican ticket, Bush championed Gardner the most, saying how electing Gardner to the U.S. Senate could remove Harry Reid as Senate Majority Leader and solidify a possible Republican controlled congress.

The rally in the conservative stronghold of Douglas County was meant to motivate locals and volunteers for the final push before the election.

Repella received a warm reception from the hometown audience when she took to the podium to address the crowd.

The candidate for lieutenant governor kept with the theme of economic improvement during her remarks, citing the prosperity of Douglas County as template for improving conditions across the state.

“In Douglas County things are going well because we got government out of the way,” Repella said. “But I’ll tell you, I’ve traveled around the state and it breaks my heart to see so many communities not doing as well as they could be doing.”
