Golden Lions get ‘chili’

The Golden Lions Club hosted its annual chili supper Jan. 23 at the Golden Masonic Building, 400 10th Street, in Golden.

The Lions report that the event was a success, with a lot of compliments on the chili this year.

Golden Lions’ chili supper–;by-the-numbers

2,000–;amount in dollars the Golden Lions Club made from donations, proceeds from the bake sale and beer purchases. The money will go into the club’s community betterment fund, which will go toward community projects and charities.

235–;number of attendees at the Golden Lions Club annual chili supper.

52–;amount, in gallons, of chili that was prepared for the chili supper. All but a couple of gallons were served.

48–;number of years the Golden Lions Club has done annual chili supper.

44–;number of pairs of eyeglasses donated at the chili supper that will go towards the Lions’ eyesight initiative, which helps provide eyeglasses and eyesight testing for children.

27–;number of Golden Lions who worked at the chili supper. About a dozen of their spouses also volunteered time.

5–;number of hours the Golden Lions were serving chili.

3–;number of breweries at the supper: Barrels and Bottles, Golden City Brewery and Mountain Toad.

1–;kind of chili was served this year, which was made up into 10 batches.
