Golden Frontier Olympics

We understand that not everyone relates to our history through exhibits and collections. People make meaningful connections to the past in a wide variety of ways. Some of the most memorable ways are through doing and through having fun. On September 13th, we are launching a brand new program that makes connections through not just doing fun things, but competing to win! Golden Frontier Olympics is a riotous team competition that has “historically inspired” events, some of which are athletic and some of which are pretty silly. Some of our favorite events include an arcade hunting game where participants will shoot Nerf guns at volunteers dressed as buffalo and bunny rabbits for points; we also have a pie-eating contest, gold mining relay, and tug-of-war competition.

Teams of 4-7 people compete for terrific prizes including “Beer for a Year” provided by Colorado Native & AC Golden Brewing Company. Register your team today online. Or, if you prefer a more armchair approach to competitions, come as a spectator. Admission is free and we’ll have delicious food truck fare and a beer garden.

We are also in the midst of preparations for Black & White Night, our annual fundraiser party that supports education programs, collections conservation, and exhibits at our three museum sites. Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 11 from 6:00-9:30 pm for a fantastic evening of food, cocktails, and fascinating Golden history. Be among the first to see our newest exhibit “Calendar Girls to Cowboys: The Art of Selling Coors.” Get a close-up look at some of our newly conserved artifacts including the one-of-a-kind 1859 Clarke map, pictured above. Also, channel your inner child and try your hand at some of the fun activities normally reserved for our Hands-on History summer campers. Generous thanks to our sponsors MillerCoors, The Golden Hotel, Golden Moon Distillery, and Friends of Golden History Museums!
