Fordham University open tomorrow; angry commuter students revolt, confusion reigns

Fordham University in NYC announced earlier this afternoon that classes will resume tomorrow despite massive transportation disruptions and post-Hurricane Sandy outages and clean-up. The administration explained its decision to move forward:

@jesspolins The University decided to resume classes to benefit the greatest # of students, minimizing disruption to the academic calendar.

@jesspolins We’re aware that many commuters will find it difficult to reach their campus, given the phased-in recovery of mass transit.

Many students, especially those who commute, were unhappy and vented their displeasure on Twitter:

Sooo Fordham decided it wants to be the only school open tmrw 😑…when it has students who commute from NJ, SI, LI etc. wow

Fordham’s bad idea robot at it again: All classes open starting 8AM tomorrow despite hindrance to commuter students and implicit unfair…

So Fordham is open tomorrow. That’s great and all but… How am I going to get there?

Why the fuck is Fordham open tomorrow. They do know half the Tri State area has no power right? Idiots. NYC schools even have off.

Oh, so NYC schools are all closed while Fordham remains open? Okay.

Update: Fordham’s Law Center will be closed.

#FordhamLaw alert: All classes/events now cancelled, Thurs-Sun, Nov. 1-4. Law library open limited hours. Details: frd.hm/X1k1pX

But it’s not clear whether the rest of the school will proceed with classes.

Backtracking?

Staff in McShane’s office tell students over phone that classes are cancelled. Fordham’s official page denies it. Get it together, Fordham!

Seriously, could Fordham be more indecisive? Glad they finally decided to just cancel, but seriously.

Fordham LC dean’s email re: closing LC creates more student confusion. If there is already confusion, why not send one clear official email?

Good advice:

Internet is fast. Students respond. Rumors spread. Plan accordingly. #fordham
