Dear Friends and Residents of Ward 2:

As a past Golden City Councilor and resident of Ward 2, I know first hand how important it is to have responsible representation. You need someone who will listen to your concerns, make sound decisions and do what’s “right” for Golden. While in office, I worked hard to find a good balance between preserving our small town feel and still make room for economic growth. I can tell you it’s not always the easiest thing to get divergent interests to come together for the common good. That’s where experience comes in.

Joe Behm is the candidate I support for Ward 2. He’s the only candidate who has the experience to deal with our biggest issue—the beltway. He’s also the only candidate who has demonstrated leadership by serving on the Economic Development Commission and the Golden Urban Renewal Authority. EDComm and GURA have not always been popular with certain people in Golden, but through his service, Joe has worked hard to improve the vitality and livability of our downtown. He’s also the candidate who, in my opinion, will preserve and protect the Golden we all love. Preservation should not be stagnation, but rather a nurturing of appropriate business and residential development.

In Hawaii, Aloha is both hello and goodbye. It is also a way of living. To “live Aloha” is to strive for the good of all, to be open and honest and to do the right thing. I believe Joe Behm will live Aloha in Golden.

April 25th is an important day for Golden. Use your voice and vote for Joe Behm. He will be the most reasonable and effective Councilor for you and your Ward 2 neighbors. I encourage you to request an absentee ballot if you are not going to be able to vote at Fire Station #4, off of Heritage Road, on April 25th.

Memorial Services Set for City Attorney PDF Print E-mail

Memorial services for long-time Golden City Attorney and President of Windholz & Associates law firm Jim Windholz will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the Stadium Club at Folsom Field on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus. Windholz, 65, died of heart attack on Jan. 1 while in California to attend the funeral of his sister, Mary Beth Lind, who died on Christmas Day.

Windholz had been appointed and served as the City Attorney in Golden since January 1990. He also served as the City Attorney in Lafayette since May 2004 and in Sheridan since October 2002. His firm wrote the Charter that made Sheridan a home-rule city. Other public agencies his firm currently represents include the Estes Park Urban Renewal Authority and the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD).

In his role as City Attorney, Windholz advised the City Councils he served on legal issues pertaining to their duties and functions, attended Council meetings, handled litigation, and drafted ordinances, resolutions and contracts. Windholz advised all three cities’ Councils on many significant legal issues and led them through many legal cases. He was particularly well versed in Colorado’s urban renewal law.

“Jim had a winning record in court that would make any football coach jealous,” said Golden City Manager Mike Bestor. “He led Golden to victory time and time again in many difficult cases, some of which have set legal precedent in the State of Colorado. He will be remembered for his wisdom, honesty and integrity. To say he’ll be sorely missed is an understatement.”

He is survived by Martha “Dru” Dunham; his mother Alice Windholz; brothers Frank Windholz and Ken Windholz; sons Eric Windholz and Grant Windholz; daughter Amy Lawrence; and four grandchildren. Memorial arrangements will be announced when they are finalized. His associates Dave Williamson and William Hayashi will continue to operate the Windholz & Associates law firm in Boulder.

The family has requested that memorial donations in Jim’s name be made to either: Recycled Racers, Inc., 6200 Dahlia St., Commerce City, CO 80022 or wwwrecycledracers.org, whose mission is to rescue and place retired Greyhound racing dogs; or Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado, 7951 E. Golden City Council is scheduled to consider a resolution Jan. 10 to appoint Dave Williamson of Windholz & Associates as Acting City Attorney.
