Dear Friends and Residents of Ward 2:

As a past Golden City Councilor and resident of Ward 2, I know first hand how important it is to have responsible representation. You need someone who will listen to your concerns, make sound decisions and do what’s “right” for Golden. While in office, I worked hard to find a good balance between preserving our small town feel and still make room for economic growth. I can tell you it’s not always the easiest thing to get divergent interests to come together for the common good. That’s where experience comes in.

Joe Behm is the candidate I support for Ward 2. He’s the only candidate who has the experience to deal with our biggest issue—the beltway. He’s also the only candidate who has demonstrated leadership by serving on the Economic Development Commission and the Golden Urban Renewal Authority. EDComm and GURA have not always been popular with certain people in Golden, but through his service, Joe has worked hard to improve the vitality and livability of our downtown. He’s also the candidate who, in my opinion, will preserve and protect the Golden we all love. Preservation should not be stagnation, but rather a nurturing of appropriate business and residential development.

In Hawaii, Aloha is both hello and goodbye. It is also a way of living. To “live Aloha” is to strive for the good of all, to be open and honest and to do the right thing. I believe Joe Behm will live Aloha in Golden.

April 25th is an important day for Golden. Use your voice and vote for Joe Behm. He will be the most reasonable and effective Councilor for you and your Ward 2 neighbors. I encourage you to request an absentee ballot if you are not going to be able to vote at Fire Station #4, off of Heritage Road, on April 25th.

Mahaho (thanks) and Aloha –

Golden launches tree project

Golden, Colo. — May 7, 2007 — The City of Golden has partnered with the Institute for Environmental Solutions (IES) to conduct the Golden Tree Project, a scientifically-based approach to increasing the environmental benefits from Golden’s urban forest.

“The right tree in the right place can lower energy and water consumption, improve air quality, and reduce the effects of global warming,” said Carol Lyons, IES executive director. “Through this collaboration, Golden will be a leader in demonstrating the potential of trees to reduce the negative effects of urban development on our environment.”

The goal of the Tree Project is to identify how trees can be used to optimize energy and water conservation, air quality, and carbon sequestration, a key element in global warming. IES team members will collect tree and building information at selected sites throughout Golden. This information will be evaluated to develop recommendations to obtain the greatest environmental benefits from the City’s urban forest.

The Travelers- Home Improvement scams on the hoof

District Attorney Scott Storey warns homeowners of the return of the Travelers. Storey says, “Every year around this time these professional thieves show up offering home repair bargains to unsuspecting consumers. They travel state to state and city to city representing themselves as experienced home repair contractors, but actually are often trained by their fathers and grandfathers in swindling techniques.”

Travelers follow hail storms, flooding, fires, etc., targeting residential neighborhoods and elderly residents. The preferred victim is a middle-class homeowner, over 60-years-old, who is unable to see or hear well. Place-blogger

But, anyone can be targeted.

Golden's Boppy - Matthews Brown Small Businessperson of the year

Congressman Mark Udall (D-Eldorado Springs) today praised Susan Matthews Brown, President of the Boppy Company in Golden, CO, for being selected as the SBA Small Business Person of 2007. Udall nominated Ms. Brown for the award because of her remarkable journey of turning a struggling company into a thriving Colorado business that has the #1 baby product in America.

"The history of The Boppy Company is an inspiring success story, and learning about the details firsthand makes you a believer; for behind the products you see on the shelf lies the story of a courageous entrepreneur who never gave up. Her company was once facing financial ruin, but with the help of an SBA microloan, she was able to turn the company around and make the Boppy Nursing and Infant Support Pillow a must-have item for new parents and the #1 baby product in America. I was proud to nominate Susan Matthews Brown as the SBA Small Business Person of 2007 and wish her much success in the future," said Udall.Place-blogger
