Audubon center hosts bird-banding station
Bird banding, in partnership with Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, “provides a unique look into the life journey of these amazing little animals,” said Audubon Society of Greater Denver outreach coordinator Kate Hogan. It fosters a new appreciation for the migration that’s happening around us in the spring. At the Audubon Nature Center, on the south edge of Chatfield State Park, an ornithologist will attach a band to the legs of wild birds to help track their migratory path and general health of the population. A visit offers an opportunity to see wild birds up close (and be assured that they are not being injured). The Banding Station is open to the public from 7:30-11 a.m. Sundays May 1, 15, 22, 29 and Saturdays May 7, 21, 28. Visitors are asked to make a donation of $ 3 to support the program.
